About Carmel Joseph
I moved to New York at the age of 10 from Haiti. I always loved art, but I didn't realized how much this creative form of expression was a part of my life until I was a freshman in high school. In 2010, I wanted to explore other opportunities and find myself so I decided to move to Pittsburgh, PA. It was hard being in an unfamiliar place and while Pittsburgh has its differences from New York, it became my home. This transition has allowed me to submit to my artistic abilities and materialize them even more.
Drawing, painting, and sketching is my diary. Every color, dot, line, and curve reveals my emotions. Each face, current/historical event, scenery, building, or object transfers my thoughts to canvas. I look at the world through an artistic eye and share this vision through my creations. The pieces that I produce embeds a significant piece of me that is shared to the world. Most artists speak a visual language. They write with colors, shapes, lines, and textures. With these techniques and others, I am never at a loss for words. I can convey my ideas with precision. Art is not a just a passion, it is a good friend and a way of life. I feel awakened with my art utensils and my canvas. When words don't come easy and my spirit is low, I can resort to the gift of innovation that I possess as a therapeutic process. I have celebrated, cried, loved, lost, and learned through art. There is excitement and liberation that flows when I use oil paints.
